Little Rooms!   Add as Favorite Photo

After pestering my apartment complex and forcing them to dig through an unsorted pile of packages, I was rewarded with this little delight by the talented, stylish, chic, creative, badass Ester of Little Rooms.

I never knew that I loved scissors until I received my pendant, but apparently I do because I just can’t get enough of this smart design. I will definitely be making more purchases (once I get my money right) from Little Rooms. Did you see that belt buckle?! Wowza. I need it.

In other news, I’ve spent today sorting out my life. Putting my apartment up for sublease and applying to Spring internships. Change is a-comin’, Obama style. Just kidding.

Also, working on my secret, personal project which I’ll share with everyone…in a week? Stay tuuuuned!

Finally did my laundry.   Add as Favorite Photo

I’ll hold off on ranting about how inconvenient doing laundry in a college apartment complex/resident hall is, and instead, move on to more interesting things. But for the record: it really sucks & I brace myself in fear that all of my clothes will come out ruined.

I did a little vintage-ing the other day & found this snazzy piece. The print, I love. The color, I love more, especially since I’ve been avoiding color for awhile. Nothing like a bright shirt to…brighten.

I’m in the process of cleaning out my closet & exciting things are in the making. Stay tuned for that.

The last picture is one of me pseudo-celebrating my twenty-first (because I sort of hate planning celebrations; I make my sister do the planning & I just show up which amounts to something like five people I know at a joint birthday dinner. Really weird. But good food! Hey, hey!) I’m taking a shot through a straw because I’m a classy broad, sometimes. I didn’t get shmammered (even five drinks later), which is unfortunate since I wanted to stumble out of there escorted by a security guard. I guess I’ll have to plan that for another day.

It's My Birthday!!   Add as Favorite Photo

Okay, so I have been sorely lacking in the update department but seeing as I am in a tumultuous love/hate relationship with all my clothes & that I have not done laundry since August, hiatus was only inevitable. You aren’t missing much; today I wore True Religions & an FSU t-shirt.

But in other news.

I bought some Rit Dye the other day & hopefully my DIY project will get underway. I’m really excited to see the results but first I have to tackle my laziness before anything too impressive happens. If all goes well, I might attack more clothes with Rit Dye, which probably will be dangerous but that’s okay.

I’m 21 today! So drinks are in order tonight. Maybe I will post a picture later tonight/tomorrow of a birthday outfit if I’m not too shmammered/hungover.

PS.
I think I have added everyone who has requested to be invited to my personal blog, but if I’ve missed you, resend me your email & I’ll make sure to add you =)

A New President & Presents in the Mail   Add as Favorite Photo

Just in time for today (though I was hoping to get it while I was voting but that’s okay, I understand the people at the Obama headquarters were probably really busy, what with winning things & all), my shirt came in the mail along with more peace braceletsssss. Such a happy day in the world (hence, me smiling really cheesily).

I didn’t wear this today, but I got excited & just wanted to take a picture of me wearing my shirt, but tomorrow I’ll try to make a more substantial outfit with this shirt.

So, I know this isn’t Politictopia, but I just wanted to share something I wrote on my personal blog that summarizes my feelings for this election:

I want to write this while the moment is somewhat fresh in my mind, as I too am one of those Americans that believes this is an historic day in our lives. While I cannot claim that I was politically conscious during the Clinton years, or that I had established my footing in a political party during the first few years of the W. Bush administration, I am politically conscious enough now to say that I have never been so moved by a presidential election.

I am not moved by the color of Barack Obama’s skin or by his gracious and admirable rhetoric. No, I am moved by Americans. This election shows that we are angry, we are tired, we are bitter and while the campaign slogan is now cliche, the election has proved to the world that we, too, want change.

For awhile, I found myself angered by my peers; in awe of their perceived apathy and/or misguided ideas toward issues that angered and shook the very core of my being. I wondered why we did not march down the streets, demanding change like the youth of Paris; why we did not protest this war more vigorously, with more audible and visible voices; why we did not fight for every human being’s right to love; why we did not care for the growing distance between upper and lower class; why we did not address the problems causing infant mortality rather than fighting against a woman’s right to choose; why we fight for ourselves instead of each other.

While I am not disillusioned enough to believe that all of these problems are solved today, the outcome of this election has allowed me to, for once, believe that there are Americans just as angered as I am who voted with a fire in their gut, a passion in their heart, a belief in their mind that the America we have shown to the world and to each other for the past eight years is an America that can no longer be allowed to exist; that in this country exists Americans who desire a new openness to different ideas, a tolerance for different people and for the lifestyles they lead, and an eagerness to greet the people of the world, once again, as friends rather than enemies; Americans who hope we will no longer be seen as the country that said “If you don’t stand with us you stand against us,” that instead we will be an America that should be honored to stand alongside the world. Yes, this election has shown me that there are Americans who, just as I do, not only believe in but desire the prospect of a better America for all Americans.

And so, while I know that tomorrow will not immediately be a better day, I hope that we are making a step in the right direction. And if Barack Obama can do for America what he did for the people of southside Chicago, we are in good hands.

xo.

Also, tomorrow I’ll post tidbits of a conversation via facebook status that just shows you how unprogressive, intolerant, ignorant, uneducated some people are. It’s hilarious though. Sometimes, it’s more fun to act stupid in response to stupid people.

I Voted!   Add as Favorite Photo

Nothing new or special that you haven’t seen before, aside from my snazzy “I Voted for Change” sticker.

I stood in line for almost two hours to cast my vote early on Saturday. I rolled out of bed, unbathed, donned a hoodie, jeans & Ray Bans & parked illegally all for the sake of my patriotic duty. This is my first presidential election, and I must say, it is as exciting as the media outlets have led you to believe. That, or I’m a nerd & watch way too much CNN.

This was me at school today.

Also, pink lips inspired by Jenni Kayne. Clearly, I sense your need to see the actual tube of lipstick. You’re welcome.

Lips: L’Oreal Pink Lady Lipstick
Nails: Finger Paints Artist’s Sapphire
or what I like to call “Democrat Blue”

I tried to take a picture of my lips today but it came out all weird & myspace-esque kissy face. So, here is a photo from last night instead. Obv, I just sit around & take pictures of myself.

All Dressed Up.   Add as Favorite Photo

No where to go.

I’ve decided this will be my birthday outfit (in two weeks). I’ve scoured through websites & stores looking for the perfect outfit with no luck so I decided it was time for this sequined gem to come out & play.

My hair is so yuck right now.

I am so tired of all of my clothes. I just want to buy tons of basics & call it a day. I was never any good at that – buying basics.

On my short list of things to buy:
1. Hanes Tees
2. Rit Dye
3. Studs

Also.
I’ve been feeling like the missing link in all of my outfits are a great pair of roughed up boots but I can’t find any that I like. Actually, I hate all boots I see except the ones that people have already bought which, such is my luck, are vintage or second hand i.e. unavailable to me. I really am leaning towards a nice pair of Dr Martens but here is my predicament: I have really narrow feet & skinny little legs. I fear they’ll look too clunky on me. To give you a bit of an idea of how small I am, even though I hate disclosing this information – ha! – I’m around 5’2 & 85-90 lbs. aka an Olsen twin. Is anyone else around this frame? Do you wear Docs? Do you like them?

Bleh. Boot shopping has never really been this hard… haha.

Blue nails because I’m being patriotic. OBAMA.
