Did I mention I read trashy teen vampire fiction? Well, I do. I also have tickets to see the movie tonight!! It’s going to be terrible, I can’t wait.
Since I’m going straight after work I decided to wear something a little gothic/romantic for my date with Twilight. A work to after work outfit if you will.

Presentation day! ACK! Actually, so far so good.
I find wearing something I feel good in really helps boost my confidence when I’m speaking in front of a group. Comfy shoes help as well since I’m having to cross the room back and forth.
This dress was an AMAZING find in my book. There is a lot of detail that I’m sure can’t be translated from a dark image. The skirt has a flattering tulip shape, pleating at the mid section and LARGE pockets to slip my hands into. The back also has a great exposed zipper detail. All for $50!! This dress is sold at Wasteland in SF. The part that shocked me was that it’s from their collection of new clothing (vs. the vintage they traditionally carry). Normally I shy away from that area of the store and stick straight to the vintage racks, but this dress caught my eye as I was leaving. The abstract painterly print and the forgiving details were everything I’ve been looking for in a dress. Happiness.
Instead of going for my traditional black tights I opted for heather grey. It feels fresh to me, especially in the context of this outfit.
Studded heels (ala Gucci) by Jeffrey Cambell. I WISH I could justify the Gucci’s… but I’ll take a well make knock-off in it’s place. These shoes really shouldn’t be comfy but they really truly are. None of that nonsense I hear from a lot of girls about comfortable heels. Most of the time I think these people must not EVER walk or they are numb from the ankle down. These shoes are practically magical. I walked from Hayes Valley, up the Castro and then back w/o a single blister or pain. AMAZING. Worth the $100 price tag 100X over!!
Today is crappy outside. Drizzles and all. My Gap parka was a life saver.

I finally found a pair of dropish-crotch jodhpur pants!! Thank Zara for that. Plus the $39 price tag made the purchase all the more thrilling!
Keeping it me. Paired back to brown vintage lace-up boots. Also, the grey… can’t forget grey!! Feeling a little more like a Goth Equestrian … but I think I like it.

Two more days until my presentation is due. This means making many outfits, talking about the many outfits, documenting, talking some more, tweaking … and finally PRESENTING!
With all the many conversations, meetings, and minor squables that happen this week I try to dress easy and comfortable. Especially if I end up pulling loooooong hours staring at grids! The last thing I need is to feel like my clothes are my enemy as well.
There are only about three colors I feel really easy in. One of them is orange. It doesn’t make any sense to me, but if you ask my BF he will tell you that orange doesn’t really count as a color. In fact he’s quick to point out it’s practically a neutral. Essentially just a more vibrant cousin of brown. I tend to disagree, but I see his logic. Keep in mind this comes from a boy that has ZERO issues from mixing and matching every color of the rainbow in ONE outfit. He’s cute, it works… just don’t tell him that.
I think the entire top half of my outift is BR. It’s just how I roll. This grandpa sweater is my favorite security blanket. It has these super cute leather elbow patches that I love endlessly.

I’m feeling stuck. I’m in a rut. Where to go? Every morning when I get dressed I look in the mirror and think, “this old thing again? Can’t you do any better?” – the answer is usually a negative. My closets and drawers are busting at the seams and yet I have nothing to wear? How is this possible? The answer is that I need to perform a clean sweep of my closet. I NEED NEED NEED to do an inspiration board to help me uncloud my thoughts.
Searching Chictopia is always a help. It’s fun to see what other people are doing out there. Sadly, most trends don’t feel right for me. I’m older than 90% of the people on this site. Not to mention I work in a corporate office. Can’t exactly rock a see-thru shreaded Tee to the office. On the other hand, I did buy a pair of drop crotch pants (it’s Lulu’s fault) at Zara this weekend. The challenge is to look like me and not a Lulu copy-cat.
Months ago I styled this outfit for work and I liked it so much I went and bought the entire outfit for myself. I changed the shoes to make it more “me”. These dark brown HH oxfords are so comfy that it’s freaking me out. Please notice I’m wearing color. It’s not a lot… but it’s what I’m willing to work with.

I’m suddenly very smitten with James Perse. I own the wrap dress from his site and can’t seemingly take it off! It’s so soft and easy to wear!! Now, day after day, I look longingly at his site. Maaaaybe I could just purchase One more dress? This color block dress keeps calling out to me.
Sadly, pretty much all of the dresses on this site need to be mine. Ughe. Sadness.
