The Many Uses of Vaseline!   Add as Favorite Photo

Vaseline, petroleum jelly..whatever you may call it, is a great product to use everyday for many uses. Not to mention that it is super cheap!

I think my obsession with vaseline started when I was in Junior High and realized I was allergic to chapstick. Remember those LipSmackers that came in a million different flavors? Yeah, those left my lips swollen and chapped for weeks :(
My mom suggested that I use Vaseline instead of chapstick and it has kept my lips super soft and healthier than ever!

Being the crafty beauty and fashion obsessed kid that I was, figured out that if i mixed some crushed blush into the vaseline, I could customize my own colored gloss! Worked amazingly and soon had dozens of jars of colored vaseline.

Not only is vaseline used for minor cuts, burns and diaper rash…as the bottle suggests haha. It’s also a great eye makeup remover! Swipe some vaseline over your eyelids and wipe off all your eye makeup instantly!
Also you can use a little bit of vaseline to tame unruly brows. Man this stuff is great.

So If you don’t have it in your medicine cabinet already, go get some! You can just buy it from the change you find in your couch!

Oh and I eventually grew out of my allergy for Chapstick, weird I know, but I still use my trusty vaseline!

How to dress for the Big game   Add as Favorite Photo

Over the weekend I was lucky enough to go to the Earthquakes vs. Galaxy game. To tell you the truth, I only went to see glimpses of David Beckham in action. (sorry for the bad quality picture of him, I had to zoom up a lot)

The first question I thought to myself was “wtf do you wear to a game?”

Of course I trolled Chictopia looking for inspiration and found some great ideas you can use for those big college games!

I usually hate seeing people wearing their school shirts because it’s just so boring and typical but MichelleYue makes it look so cute and chic! Love how its oversized, off one shoulder and half tucked into her jeans! So effortless and so good. Perfect for wearing to a football game and standing out from the other couple hundred students with the same sweater.

You could also show your school spirit by wearing your school colors, but in a stylish way. Instead of painting your entire face one color why not just wear head to toe blue (or whatever your school colors are) like Lois! You’ll be sure to stand out and not look like a crazy person with your face all painted and your shirt off (if you’re a guy) NOT CHIC

Overall, I just think you should wear something comfortable and won’t mind getting beer and other liquids spilled on. Also, remember to layer! It was pretty chilly in the stadium then warmed up quickly then got windy and chilly again :/ Also sunglasses are a must! Unless you want to be squinting and shielding the sun from your eyes the entire time. NOT CHIC

Well the game was a pretty good one. 3-2 with the Earthquakes winning.

David Beckham looked gooood. Too bad I can’t say the same for Victoria…

the (real) dry shampoo   Add as Favorite Photo

While many of us in the realm of Chictopia may associate the dry shampoo with a dopey pose from the ChictopiaTV video, I’m here to show you how to use REAL dry shampoo when you’re unable to wash your hair. The idea sounds icky but it isn’t so bad once you get used to it!

Reasons why you might need dry shampoo:
- get to sleep in a little longer
- simple and easily done in a few minutes
- camping trips, music festivals, etc.
- you’re just lazy
- your water was turned off for some reason (unpaid bills?)
- your bathroom tiles caved in and your shower is currently being remodeled for the next few days

(TRUE STORY: I really did have to use this today because of the last reason!)

Yeah, my bathroom is unavailable so I guess this makes it more true to life! Oh, the things I do for you, Chictopia. Well, I’ll go ahead and walk you guys through how I got ready this morning.

FIVE EASY STEPS:
1. hold bottle 6 to 8 inches away from scalp
2. spray evenly throughout hair
3. let set for a minute or two
4. DO THE DRY SHAMPOO!
5. style however you’d like

And you’re done! I seriously got ready in less than ten minutes today! I guess you could also title this “how to look chic when you’re late for class” haha.

As for the brands of dry shampoo out there, they run the price gamut of drugstore cheap to more than double the price so it depends on what you’re looking for. I have this Psssst one that I picked up at Walgreens for $7 but I have been tempted to go to Sephora and pick up some from Oscar Blandi or Rene Furterer. Oscar Blandi actually makes this really cute travel sized spray that would be great for on the go touch up but it’s $11 so spend wisely.

But seriously, if you can… shower, stinkies! I’m not trying to convince you guys not to shower on a regular basis!!

annabel

Campus Friendly Footwear   Add as Favorite Photo

I got a request from agooddictator for suggestions on shoes for running around campus other than your usual ballet flats.
I for one love to wear heels and wish I could wear them all the time but a college campus is one place where it just ain’t happenin’. Walking from class to class across what seems like miles of stairs, hallways, and hills is brutal on your feet, so comfort is key! However, that doesn’t mean you have to succumb to the typical choice of footwear by college kids across the nation of Uggs and Rainbow brand sandals. GROSS. I remember one very hot day on campus there was literally a parade of students in their Rainbow flip flops making that noise that flips flops make. Ya know, that fwap fwap sound. I call ‘em The Fwappers.
I can still hear it now…

Anyway, after some browsing about the Chictopia Style Gallery and online stores I found some shoes that won’t sacrifice style for comfort.

Minnetonka boots these are a great alternative to Uggs. The fringe is awesome and they can be paired with so many different outfits. I love especially how Lulu wears hers.

Small wedge sandals Now if you really wanna wear heels which agooddictator emphasized in her request on campus friendly footwear, I suggest something with a stable heel such as these sandals from Asos. They’re not very high but still give you a little height boost and they’re super comfy for running around campus. Save your stilettos and platforms for after class ;)

Cutout sandals These are great since they’re super comfortable and look so cool! Annabel has a sweet pair that she wears often for running around town. I really like these black ones from Urban Outfitters. They can really add an interesting touch to a simple ensemble of jeans and a tee.

I also included some pictures from users in great shoes AND great outfits for campus.

Love how Camille wore her Docs with tights+socks and that white blazer. I totally see her stomping around campus in those.

Also love the way Zoe paired those bright red patent flats with dusty blues and green. SO GOOD.

So the moral of this post is DON”T BECOME A FWAPPER!

xoxo,
Linda
