Looked everywhere for this type of necklace in Austin. Finally found it in Lucy in Disguise in Diamonds, one of my favourite shops on the best block of South Congress. (I got the chain for the faux-Mawi DIY there. Should have bought the whole spool. It’s the perfect size for everything.)
The man in the shop next door (Uncommon Objects, also GENIUS) told me that these are really expensive. Yeah, for a vintage one. I got this new one for $10. Score.
Its eyes were originally a sort of mid blue fake sapphire colour. I painted over them with Lincoln Park After Dark.
I’ve already written an essay, but check out Noel Fielding looking all rugged and manly with a snake around his neck. Not bad for the lady boy.

DIY Mawi Add as Favorite Photo

I’ve been in love with the Mawi necklace ever since I saw it on Alexa Chung. So when I saw these baubles in Walmart’s sewing section, I had to make one. Once I got the chain, it took, what, five minutes?
