Dirty Looking Glass Add as Favorite Photo

This is what I wore on opening night of Alice in Wonderland. Sorry for the dirty mirror and skirt wrinkles! I love this skirt so much!
I found this fabric really cheap and immediately knew I wanted to make a high-waisted a-line out of it.
It was still pretty chilly around here [who am I kidding, it still is now..] so I tucked in a button-down sweater vest over a neon green PacSun tank [$4]. Button-down sweater vests were my obsession this past winter. I got them in black, neon pink henley style with hoodie pocket, heather and dark grey striped tunic length, navy blue, purple. Just loved them.
My favorite part of this outfit is the shoes! I kept seeing this style in magazines and just happened to find this pair in AJ Wright for $7 a few months ago! I seriously never buy anything unless it’s on sale, hehe.
Anyhow, I promise I will start exclusively making other people take my pictures or finding a way to not look like a criminal/sasquatch hybrid in pictures using my camera’s timer.
Alice was fantastic, by the way, as I’m sure you all know.

Spring Come Soon Add as Favorite Photo

I made this dress last Summer and hardly ever wore it. No idea why because it’s so bright and fun! So easy to make, too. I plan to make several more for the Spring/Summer.
I usually wear the dress alone or with the belt tied just under the bust for an empire look..or on my hips with the dress bloused out over it with skinnies, but today i felt vaguely Alice-Gaga-ish [it’s a legit word, thankyouverymuch] and decided what i really needed was a big floppy bow on my head. It was received quite well at work. i was called a ‘doll’ more than once.
Basically, I’m about sick and tired of the cold. There’s no more snow to play in and I’m [gasp!] getting sick of layering. I just woke up and wanted cotton dresses, colorful sandals and bare legs.
Spring, come soon please.

Vintage Wool Add as Favorite Photo

One year, while working for the Opera Theatre of St. Louis [going back in May!!], a local lady brought in swathes and swathes of vintage fabric she’d had in her attic since the 60s and 70s. It was a first come, first serve frenzy and I emerged from the melee with several bolts of ugly-beautiful polyester 70s prints and gorgeous vintage wools, like this acid green with chevrons. So, I made this jumper skirt and a high-waisted circle skirt out of, as well as a bow-tie for my fiancee!
This is what I wore to work on Sunday. It was just a tad less chilly than it has been, so I just brought this cable knit cape to keep my shoulders warm. No heels because my feet would’ve been dead by hour three. An actual good hair day + green/yellow goldfinch necklace that perfectly matches my outfit = joy.
Come on Spring, this would have looked better if the grass matched my jumper!

Fruity Pebbles! Add as Favorite Photo

Okay, I know. Kind of crappy picture, but my Mom isn’t exactly a photographer. Just going out to lunch with Mom, aunt and Grandma. Woo, Mexican food!
The skirt caught my eye at Goodwill and though $4 is a little more than I usually spend for anything at a thrift store, I got it because I’m in lust with the fruity pebbles/church lady print. It was ankle length but I had visions of a bubble hem, so I safety-pinned the bottom up into the waistband at the front back and sides and voila! Instant bubble hem. Very easy. Try it.
These are easily my favorite boots. I was lusting over the Dr. Martens, but saw these babies in Wal-Mart for ten bucks and grabbed them. Will have to go back for the lime green and black versions as well. Maybe even brown. Anything is made better by it being made of rubber, and you can quote me on that.
Crazy hair day, so I just went with it.

It was SO HOT this day.
One of my favorite dresses ever.
Shades of green: check.
Leopard print: check.
trapeze silhouette: check.
Pink chucks with magenta laces for fun and function…I had six hours of on-my-feet-the-whole-time retail ahead of me.
