Minimalism hit the runway in more ways than one this season. Silhouettes were crisp, lines were clean. Hair was stick straight and slicked back, and nails were subtle in nude hues. In a sense, fashion is having a detox moment, and by stripping all of the elements bare, the essence of chic is revealed.
While I'm all about some cherry red and deep, dark nails, it was a breathe of fresh air seeing much of the Fall/Winter 2014 runway manis kept almost bare. Victoria Beckham opted for clear matte nails paired with fresh-faced makeup, and Prabal Gurung used glossy off-white nails to offset vivid hues and middle-part hairstyles.
Here are the understated nail colors to invest in this Spring:
Combine gray and beige to get this ultra neutral hue. We dig how it looks with a white and gold number on LifesJules.
If you want to go as minimal as possible, opt for a stripped-down clear matte nailpolish. Going sans shine and color leaves your wardrobe options fully open. We could see this looking super chic with a highly-textured gray look a la RedReidinghood.
Matte or shiny, a true nude hue is where it's at this season. Alice + Olivia used a half-moon nude nail to balance out her vivid hues and playful prints in her #SS14 collection. Let looks like Mickeylene's denim shirt and platforms and TracyQ's pastel lace dress shine with this stripped-down nail hue.
