Dominiquetiu 's Thoughts:

Last week, I saw Ben Stiller’s new movie: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (which is based on a short story by James Thurber). It is a story about Walter Mitty, an ordinary man who frequently daydreams of crazy adventures until… he has to go on a real adventure. Now, I’m not going to spoil the story in this blog post but I am gong to tell you flat out that it was a vey heartwarming film. I was expecting a shallow comedy of sorts to be honest… my kind of entertainment but as the plot progressed, I was surprised to find out that the movie had a lot of heart and depth.
I could especially relate to Walter’s character–a man who lived in his own fantasy world to the point that he forgot to live in real life. I was that way back in college, I zoned out so much and preferred to entertain myself with my own thoughts during lull time. I had acquaintances who thought I was a snob because I would not greet them back when they would say “Hello” but honestly, I was deep in Lala Land, dreaming with my eyes glazed.
Obviously, real life took its toll but I do still spend an awful lot of time dreaming. Maybe that’s why I consider myself a writer–those thoughts need an outlet after all!
What struck me most was when Walter was forced out of his comfort zone and into his own little adventure. He took risks and was able to overcome his self-imposed limitations. I’m sure everyone can relate to his propensity to go into illusory state and entertain their active imaginations; to remain in one’s comfort zone and keep thoughts of adventures as just mere thoughts.
So now this movie has inspired me to “live” a little… to try, to take risks, to covet more, and to never settle. Timely, considering all that’s happening in my life now.
