Perhaps my strange and recently acquired obsession with tacky floral prints led me here. Or maybe, my desire for a pair of practical, comfortable shoes. Maybe I’m reverting back to my childhood days running on the playground with my acid wash denim shorts and side ponytails. Either way, Keds’ fairly recent launch of Keds Studio, in partnership with Zazzle.com this past August is the medium through which my strange desires come to fruition.
If you ask me, this one time staple of kindergartners and soccer moms (mmm, mom jeans) has officially found a way to squirm into the hearts of coeds everywhere. Practical shoes for campus? Yes, please! Something other than Uggs, ballet flats and Rainbow flip-flops in which to make the treacherous trek to class? Hell yes.
Better still, if you aren’t a fan of the stock items Keds has to offer, Keds Studio is the perfect place in which to flex your creative muscles. Choose from three different styles, an endless array of colors and even the option to upload your own graphics. Check out the horrendously garish, yet simultaneously lovable floral Keds I pieced together. Anna Sui, you’ve been warned.
And for the entrepreneurial types, there is even the option to sell your custom shoes via Keds partner Zazzle.com.
Finding the perfect pair of shoes is always a challenge, especially shoes that are both fashionable and practical for extensive campus walking. So maybe you don’t want to toss out your gladiator sandals just yet, but maybe have a pair of Keds laying around for those days when your toes look janky because you were too lazy to repaint them. And at $60 a pop, all I’m left to wonder is how Keds could have possibly known about my love for cheesy floral prints? I mean, besides destiny of course.
