cocoandvera 's thoughts:

Whenever I go home for a visit, I can’t resist the temptation to raid my mom’s closet. Growing up, I often played dress-up in her dresses and handmade floral print jackets; I always paired them with what I considered her best pair of shoes, strappy black peeptoes with a wooden heel. In the past few years, many of the pieces that were part of my little girl dress-up kit have made their way into my grown-up closet. And on my most recent trip to Winnipeg, mom generously gifted me two of the three greatest gems in her wardrobe; a heavy camel-coloured winter coat with a waist-cinching belt and a pair of dark brown leather boots that, unbelievably, were made in Canada. {The third, a long red dress, was donated to charity before I professed my love for it, sadly.} To be entirely honest, the boots are a bit snug – mom’s feet are half a size smaller than mine – but I can’t stop myself from wearing them, anyway. I’m not convinced that boots of this quality exist anymore – and if they do, there’s no way that they would fit into my miniscule writer’s budget. Thank goodness for stylish parents! This fall, I’ve been walking around like it’s 1978, and loving every minute of it.
