Warm sunshine from the sky above, golden butter spread across a fresh loaf of bread, and ripe fruit bursting with juice… These were the things Corinne thought about as she regarded her dress in the mirror. Speckled with white across the yellow, it was a light summer dress, sleeveless and short, and it made her think of dancing across a sandy shore.
Smiling at the thought, she turned away from the mirror and walked over to her canvas. She folded her legs beneath her and picked up her paintbrush and palette. Pursing her lips for a moment, she dipped the brush into a shade of gold that perfectly matched the dress she was wearing. She had the dress, the wish, and the talent; that meant that even if she could not go to the beach, she could create it here and satisfy her desire. That was how she had always thought about it.
The best thing about art, she thought to herself as she smoothed out the golden strokes that would begin her beach, is its ability to bring the imagination a little closer to reality.
