Happy National Batik Day to all my fellow Indonesians and worldwide Batik fans!
A random skype conversation with my mom the other day that led me to post this outfit: “Neither you or your brother wants to come and live back home in Indonesia. I really think I did something wrong in raising you two..” she complained over the phone, which was followed by a long lecture of nationalism.
I admit I haven’t been the best Indonesian citizen these past few years, as I’ve never bothered to vote in past elections and I cannot write a letter in my native language to save my life. But I do love Indonesia, and I make it a point to tell everyone I know that our cuisine is second to none (even CNN says so ). But yes, I haven’t been parading my Indo Pride as much as I like to. So I decided that I just had to do an outfit dedicated to my motherland.
October 2nd is national batik day in Indonesia, so there couldn’t be a better day for me to show off my favorite batik skirt. The particular batik pattern I’m wearing is from West Java, the region my mom’s family came from. The print itself is called “Mega Mendung” which directly translates to “Mega Overcast”—which explains why there are a bunch of tiny clouds all over my skirt. :) My new panda sweater and tribal print denim jacket, both from Chictopia Shop, pairs perfectly with my skirt.
