Fashion and creativity mean experimenting, trying, daring.
If you follow set patterns you’ll never get something original and personalized.
Breaking the rules, on the other hand, request self confidence, motivation and sometimes irony.
This outfit came up by chance. Yesterday evening there was a “bad taste” party; during lunch I was discussing with friends whether to go or not. I normally dislike bad-taste party because I never manage to get a really awful outfit. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have an inflated ego. It’s just that I feel uncomfortable wearing thousands of colours and patters mixed randomly. Apart from making fun of me my friend Verena told me joking I should have worn a trash bag to look the part, which made me laughing.
In the afternoon I thought about the joke again and I bet with myself I would have pulled off a chic outfit with a bin liner.
I was excited by the challenge and took inspiration from the fall 09 catwalks for the structured shoulders and the puffy skirt. I just cut three holes, fixed and shaped the whole with the belt. To maximize the contrast I added designed Prada shoes – hope Miuccia won’t mind hehe – red tights and a vintage evening bag I got from my grandmum.
I was so happy with the result that I decided to go to the pre-party dressed like this! You can’t imagine how people looked at me; they were shocked and thought I would have done it just because of the “bad taste” party.
What’s wrong with wearing a bin liner as a dress? Why do people wear so many different textiles together but they would never wear a black, plastic dress? I suppose just because they associate THAT material with rubbish.
Haha so naiveeee ;o)
Hope you chictopians like it and I’m looking forward to your comments and feedbacks
