Not only has this August Style Icon trained herself into wearing eloquent pieces, she’s also exercised her way into becoming a fitness afficianodo! Passionate in both healthy lifestyles and embroidered outfits, Jane Song of FitFabFun is multi-tasking mom of two who balances all of her loves to motivate others into pursuing their desires and goals. Although Jane just started blogging earlier this year, she’s already garnered a bilingual cult following and the highly coveted Chictopia Style Icon status. Let’s get personal with Jane on how she keeps it fit, fab, and fun!
Can you tell us how you came up with fashion AND exercise blogging? What do you hope to achieve with blogging with your blog, FitFabFunMom?
Before starting blogging, I used to be actively involved in fitness and fashion boards from several popular bulletin board systems, where we reached out to Chinese Americans. A lot of my audience suggested that I should start up my own fitness and fashion blog to share and motivate women and moms who wants to stay fit and fab.
As a mom of two, I believe a woman can always be classy and fabulous regardless of her age. What it takes is not to be forever 21, but to have a living dream, a desiring heart, and a belief that life doesn’t need to be perfect to be beautiful. And ultimately, I want to share that passion and belief with more people through blogging.
How would you describe a typical outfit for yourself?
As a working professional, my typical outfit on the weekdays is business professional. The phrase, “Dress for Success” is so true in the business world, and my favorite outfit is this perfect pants-suit from Theory! But, I do still love to dress casually over the weekend. I like to wear either skinny jeans paired with a t-shirt or some lovely mini dresses.
Where are you originally from, and how does that place inspire your fashion choices?
I am originally from Mainland China; I was born and raised in Beijing, the capital city. Its time-honored history left Beijing plenty of historical relics and colorful customs, which certainly inspired me a lot in terms of my fashion choices. I love stunning embroidery, enjoy playing on shape and proportion, colors, and most importantly, femininity that is outlined rather than laid bare based on Eastern culture.
How does being a mom shape your fashion choices and what you pick for an outfit? Does it hinder you from wearing certain pieces? Any tips?
Being a mom does require a lot of sacrifice. However, being fabulous and fashionable does not have to be one of them in my opinion! :-)
To look good, we need to feel good. Oftentimes moms spend so much time taking care of our families that we don’t make time for ourselves. So, my very first tip for fellow moms is that it’s very important that we all take a little “me” time out every once in a while for some pampering!
In terms of outfit choosing, simple, versatile, and effortless pieces work the best for busy moms! Also, investing in classic pieces, add on-trend accessories and updating your hair and makeup can help create a great modern look at every age!
Many people think exercising is not fun; do you have any tips on how to make a workout fun or any ‘everyday’ routine workouts that is possible for everybody to do?
When thinking about exercise, lots of people consider the old fashioned way of “no pain, no gain” in order to achieve results. But actually, we don’t have to push ourselves to the limit. And it doesn’t take hours of pumping weights in a gym or running mile after mile to achieve desirable results.
The most important advice I always share with my friends and readers is to start with some form of exercise that you like. It could be walking, running, dancing or swimming. Then you can tailor a regular mild to moderate exercise routine to your needs from there.
As an example, here is my 60-minute gym workout routine:
1) Warm up: 10 minutes treadmill jogging (4mph)
2) Weight training: 25 minutes
- barbell squat- 3×10
- bench press- 3×10
- overhead press- 3×10
- dumbbell bent-over row- 3×10
- chin up- body weight
3) Cardio: 20 minutes treadmill run (6mph)
4) Stretch: 5 minutes
We know you’re a fitness lover, so what’s the perfect gym outfit for a fashionista? Also, do girls really need sports bras when it comes to exercising?
When it comes to choosing what to wear for working out, it can be easy to fall into the routine of wearing the same thing every day. The perfect gym outfit for me (or my fellow fashionistas) includes:
1) Super hot/fit workout pants: It’s the key element of our gym ensemble! And the brand, Lululemon, has the best style in my opinion.
2) Layered styled tops: Try to avoid boxy T-shirts and billowy sweatshirts though. A fitted tee layered with a slim fit hoodie will give you a better shape!
3) A pair of gorgeous sneakers: Talk about the important highlight of gym outfit, this is it! Nike always has the best color and stylish designs.
Regarding the sports bra, it really depends on what type of workout we do. They are meant to offer more support and control when we’re active. For example, when we do some high-impact workout, such as running or kickboxing, good quality sports bra will offer the proper chest support. On the other hand, when we perform the low-impact workout, like yoga or barre, the “free to be tank” from Lululemon would be a better choice! :-)
What’s your favorite outfit so far?
My current favorite outfit is my most recent one where I’m wearing a blue plaid top, shorts, and black boots!
It truly represents the concept of “effortless chic,” and all the pieces are easy to get and affordable for all of us!
What’s your favorite and least favorite thing about yourself?
Haha…I love this question! :-)
Well…my favorite thing about myself is my ability and passion to learn new things! My least favorite thing about myself is my impatience.
Does your current career involve fashion? Can you tell us a little bit about your plans?
No. My current job has nothing to do with fashion and/or fitness. I absolutely am enjoying doing my current job, but in the meantime, I do LOVE fashion and fitness as two of my biggest hobbies!
I hope that I’d have some opportunities to meet and/or collaborate with fellow bloggers and brands to share my voices, inspirations, and motivations with other people.
If you could meet another Chictopian Style Icon, who would it be?
I’d love to meet them all :-) as each and everyone is absolutely wonderful and stylish in its own way! But if I have to pick only one, I’d love to meet with HallieDaily because we live in the same city, she’s also a mom fashion blogger, and her style is simply amazing!
Casual chic for sure! Got some questions for Jane? Comment below and she may just answer them!
