The web is the virtual world that never sleeps. Humans sleep. Thus, through simple logic we can deduce that we can never stay up to date on all the madness that goes on. This is not exactly a bad thing, as not everything on the internet is worth consuming. But we miss some good stuff too. Enter: Chictopia’s Weekly Web Roundup. We filter out the fillers, and bring you the cream of the crop.

Those of you who are on that unpaid intern grind, we’ve got good news for you. While some of internships truly pay in experience and industry knowledge, there’s always those that mainly consist of fetching coffee, making copies, and doing whatever else is considered grunt work. For those of you in the latter position, a federal district judge in Manhattan has implemented the Department of Labor’s six-point test to determine whether an unpaid internship is legitimate, and has ruled in favor of the intern that filed a class action suit against Fox Searchlight Studios. It’s one thing to pay your dues, but it’s another to be blatantly taken advantage on. Know your rights.
New Zealand has got it made. The accent, the greenery, one teaspoon – now, they have another bragging right to add to the mix. Meet Lorde. She’s a sixteen year old wunderkind who make great jams, but has great lyrics to match. She only has an EP out so far, her debut album is on the way. New Zealand has Lorde, we have Rebecca Black. The world just isn’t fair sometimes, eh?
Shenanigans on the Interwebz
Ever wonder what your cat is thinking? Does he/she see me as a source of food? Is he/she Is he/she judging me? Does he/she even like me?! Well, wonder no more. Thanks to this video, we can all get like Eliza Thornberry.
Like mini golf? Like art? Well, the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden currently has 15 interactive holes on display, ranging from a foosball style hole guarded by gnomes, and a hole housed in a golf ball inspired dome. The exhibit runs until September 8th, but if you can’t make it to the Silver City, you can check out the course here.
Food for Thought
Ever heard of a Japanese school of thought termed wabi-sabi? It finds beauty in entropy, disorder, and imperfection. Things don’t have to be pretty to be beautiful. Same goes for creativity. Creativity is great because it is near impossible to qualify. Create something new every day just for personal satisfaction, and stop worrying about whether or not it’s “good enough”. It’s the process of creating that’s the most important. Get inspired.
Jumpstart With a Jumpsuit
Jumpsuits make us happy. They’re a one and done, but allow you to mix prints and fabrics. Districtofchic does a dressed up, sleek rendition, while RJanine’s is slightly more lounge-y and beach ready. How do you do jumpsuits?
In The Chictopia Office
There’s a bit of a bread pudding obsession sweeping the office. We have a La Boulange a hop, skip, and jump away. It’s seriously dangerously close. For those who are unfamiliar, La Boulange is a little french bakery chain based in the Bay Area, that was recently bought by Starbucks. Anyway, their croissant bread pudding is the bomb. Give it a try if you get the chance. Don’t forget the nutella on the side. This really should be a paid sponsorship, but we pinky promise it’s not. We just really like bread pudding.
That wraps up this week’s round up. Hope y’all have learned something, or found a few laughs along the way. Have a great weekend, and we’ll see you next week!
