Until I saw that sweater I honesty always hated studs. But those studs look so amazing, and now I’m rethinking why I don’t have any in my wardrobe.

Do the stud create holes in your sweater?

It's amazingly simple to do. You just have to think hard about your choice of fabric and your placement.

wow, that's hot. why did you choose a grey sweater and not a black one? (just out of curiosity, seems like you're running a black theme in your outfits)

The brass studs don't show up so well against black. Connie studded her white bag and the contrast looks great.

You can buy them online from a number of suppliers or your local fabric store. Most them are just hollow studs with two prongs at the back. Make two small cuts, insert, and bend the prongs inward. Super easy!

holy, great diy marcus! :) i think if you put some shoulder pads -- it would look even more rad than it does now. :D

can you please send me a message on how to do studding? i've always wanted to do it, but never really qutie knew how =)

They're literally just pyramids with two prongs in the back. Cut two slits with a penknife, stick the stud through, and bend the prongs with either yours hand or a metal ruler or something. Super easy.

There are a ton of online wholesalers that will sell you bags by the hundred. I got 300 for about $30 after taxes and shipping, which is way more than Connie and I could use; plenty of extras for the future!

You can stud pretty much anything! It's all just a matter of how much and where.

that sweater is so badass. i really want to do a project like that - i was thinking of covering an entire tank top in studs, but it would probably use over 1000 of them, take forever, and weigh too much to wear. :(

Sounds like a good idea, but don't forget that knits stretch as you add weight. I suggest you start with a bit, try it on then decide where you want to do next.

I am not crafty, even though I knit. I knit out of necessity more than anything else. (Like hell I’m paying $200 for a Dior Homme scarf I can make myself.) But when Connie brought up the notion of studding things, I could not resist. So, we bought a bag of 300 studs, hunkered down in front of our textbooks, and had at it.

My fingers kind of hurt, but I’m happy to have given this old French Connection sweater a second life as a piece of my newly bad-ass spring wardrobe. Roll up the sleeves a bit, throw some random glop in my hair, pull on the same freaking pair of combat boots, and I’m ready to go.

Also, I’ve put up a ton of stuff FOR SALE, so check it out and let me know if you want anything. More stuff will probably come as I get to it.
