If you ever plan on making a trip to the San Francisco Bay Area and want to be like a local, these are a few songs that should be in your repertoire. Depending on the crowd you run with, you can reference/karaoke to these tunes in an ironic way, or you can be a straight up hoodlum, and dazzle with your knowledge of these signature YAY AREA jamz. Yes, with a ‘z’.
Losing faith in the pop genre? Do not despair, The Neighbourhood, a self proclaimed “dark pop” band, will bring you back the the honeymoon state. Many of you have probably heard “Sweater Weather”, but be sure to also check out “Female Robbery”, “Let it Go”, and “Float”. Their whole album, basically. I Love You was released in April, and we have had it on repeat ever since. If/when you do fall deeply in love with them, you’ll be happy to know that they’re also on tour in the US right now. They’re great live.
Shenanigans on the Interwebz
Game. Of. Thrones. Need we say more? Whether you watch the show or not, unless you have been living without human interaction and wifi access, you probably haven’t been able to escape the buzz about this show since the latest episode came out. For those of you who aren’t into the gore, here’s something to keep you entertained and make you feel like you’re a part of the Game of Thrones frenzy, without you having to sit through medieval killing sprees.
Most of you style-savvy Chictopians probably remember that the theme of the Met Ball this year was punk. This subculture that developed in the US, the UK, and Australia in the mid 70s is no doubt still alive and thriving. The Met’s continuing the celebration of all things punk, with its Chaos to Couture exhibit, on display until August 14th. Here’s a sneak peak at what’s on display.
Food for Thought
Did you know that virtually no plus-sized mannequins exist? For some time now, designers have just been taking their sample sizes and sizing them up proportionally, to make bigger sizes. You can probably see why this is an issue, since weight is not distributed the same between size 2’s and size 12’s. In fact, weight isn’t even distributed the same among those of the same dress size. Enter these two Cornell Apparel Designer Sophomores who recognized this, and went on to dig through thousands of 3D body scans and create a pear-shaped, size 24 mannequin. One of the few of its kind. Respect.
Shawl Are So Chic
Shawls are a great accessory to throw over your summer outfits when the sun sets. Whether it be a floral, like Olivia Shutey’s, or a solid color, like walnut whale’s, it can make a chic addition to almost any outfit. Belt it to keep it in place and accentuate the waist if you’d like.
In The Chictopia Office
One of the guys in the Office has just recently gotten hooked on Desperate Housewives. Just goes to show that you really can’t judge a book by its cover (or, in this case, a show by its title). Can we also acknowledge that It’s been a little over a year since the series finale? Madness.
Yum. Quite the satisfying www.meal this week. Until next Friday!
