A few months ago I came across a very interesting article from Marieclaire.com and its title was ‘Are Girlfriends the New Husbands?‘ and I thought…mmm. That’s a very good point. As a young woman living in 2013 I can really say that the way of perceiving relationships has changed so much and I actually believe that the real ones are the ‘side’ relationships, the ones that you have with others than your boyfriend, your mom, your brother, bla bla. Those ‘others’ are the ‘Girlfriends’ from the article mentioned before: your gynecologist, your therapist, your best friend’s mom, your personal trainer, the girl that cuts your hair and the UPS guy that delivers every day at 8:15, well sort of… I wonder why we can get the best understanding and exchange of feelings with people that don’t have a traditional role in our life but that just happen to be there. And every time it’s the same excitement of falling in love for the first time. Because in the end, don’t we all need to be understood? Isn’t it all about that safety that makes you really feel at home? And why is it so hard to find it in a traditional romantic relationship but so easy to have with less more than strangers? Are girlfriends the husbands?
