Last night we headed over to the launch of H&M’s second Conscious Collection at the San Francisco flagship store on Powell Street. As part of the Conscious initiative, H&M created a gorgeous, affordable, and green collection made from more sustainable materials that included a tulle gown, rose-trimmed cocktail dress, and beaded clutch. We’re gonna need a fancy event to wear these to! 90210’s Jessica Stroup was at the event looking bohemian chic in a high low dress from the collection and a pair of ankle cowboy boots (love!). I interviewed the actress for the deets on her biggest fashion faux pas and some exclusive style tips.
Where did you hear about Chictopia?
I’ve browsed the site! Someone posted about it on Twitter and I think I connected through there.
Do you have any favorite fashion blogs?
I really like Stylista. There are some smaller blogs that friends do that I’m also interested in.
Do you have a favorite piece that you’ve worn on 90210?
Yeah, we recently did an alternate reality episode and I got to wear some Givenchy boots. And I got to keep them! They’re pretty amazing, they black and have studs going up the center line and they’re high heeled and sexy. I wouldn’t wear them very often because they’re a little too sexy, but I love them.
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is fashion meets comfort. I need to be able to be myself and be able to move around. I don’t want to be standing so stiff that I’m not able to move my arms. For me living by the beach there’s a lot of baggy bagginess. So when I go for dresses, I need them to be fitted. I like to be a tomboy most of the time, so when I’m dressed up I’m really dressed up.
Is that why you’re wearing boots with your dress today?
That’s awesome! I’d probably hang some pants really low. I’ve got some khaki pants that are pretty loose fitting.
Like harem pants?
Yeah, I’d like to wear those real low and go straight tomboy and wear like a hat or something. So that guys don’t know that I’m a girl.
So did you get that situation all squared out?
Yes! Gosh that was a couple years ago. He might still live there, but I’ve moved on.
What do you consider your biggest fashion faux pas?
Probably too tight of clothes. In my past, I’d try to dress sexy and have gone too tight, too short quite a few times. Honestly, I realized that I have to let go of caring so much and just accept and be myself and be as beautiful as I can be.
Have you seen weird fashion choices in the entertainment industry that you would advise against?
I’ve worked with some girls who’d constantly, constantly wear the halter top thing where it’s literally your entire stomach showing. You know… it’s cute, but not when you’re almost thirty. Let’s keep it a little bit more conservative.
Is there a trend that you wish would come back?
1800s! Kind of what I’m doing right now. I’m really into Victorian style. Not necessarily the laced up back thing, but I love a woman who can still be sexy but not show it to everybody.
What are your favorite TV shows at the moment?
I love Shameless. I’ve been watching The Following— it’s scary! I love Duck Dynasty. Modern Family is obviously genius.
Do you have a favorite piece from the H&M Conscious collection?
What I’m wearing! My other favorite is the peach bare back dress. I love the way that it falls. I don’t know how they did that but it’s amazing. And it’s affordable too!
