There’s no better feeling than spending a perfectly airy, almost summer-like weekend out on a vibrant stretch of East Los Angeles, home to the most authentic tacos, aqua fresca and nostalgia-inducing ice cream — ever. It’s where you’ll find an affable group of nonchalant men masquerading as mariachi band, an immeasurable amount of tackiness from one storefront to another and the endless chain of fresh stands to keep hydrate a whole village. Chasing down that ice cream truck just brought me back to growing up in my suburban bubble of Monterey Park. You simply can’t replicate this experience anywhere else. Sometimes you need constant reminders that life can be simple and unfussy to fully appreciate what you already have.
And the best part of it all? Soaking up all this cultural ambience in what is perhaps the lightest and most comfortable denim shirt in my wardrobe at the moment!
