I am running, not walking into spring this year, starting with stocking up on casual, warm-weather basics. Included on the list are a perfect pair of roll-up denim shorts that are not too short nor too ragged, a pop of colored knitwear, and a throw-over-anything anorak.
While they all work beautifully together, what makes each of these pieces so necessary is that each piece is incredibly versatile in their own right. Roll-up denim shorts are the most obvious no-brainer. Slip them over a classic one-piece for a beach to park look, or pair them with a lacy white sleeveless top, a colorful moto and a statement necklace for a sweet barbecue look. Wear your colorfully knit top with your roll-up denim shorts for an easy weekend look, or swap out your denim for cropped black trousers and pointy-toe flats for a work appropriate ensemble that has you all set for the following Monday.
As for the anorak, this piece really can be tossed over nearly anything from your flimsiest slip dress to blue denim or black skinnies. Personally, I adore wearing one over my more feminine, thigh-skimming dresses as it tones down the girliness and the heavier weight and longer cut of this jacket helps to keep a short flowy skirt in place when one of those summer breezes threatens to catch you off guard. (A quick style tip: don’t be afraid to seek out your perfect anorak in the men’s section – you can often cinch up the waist for a more feminine look and the oversized shape ensures a casual look)
