Meet Netherlands blogger, Yamilla Beers of Style Bonbon, whose name is as unique as her style. Known for her dirty blonde streaks and exotic look, Yamilla could easily pass for a sensible yet valor model. While most people don’t have the guts to be proud of their gapped teeth, Yamilla freely showcases hers, making it one of her well known features. Let’s get personal with Yamilla as she talks about her culture and other fashion tidbits in this fun ‘fill-in-the-blank’ interview.
My style is all about… comfort.
“I just love comfortable items. I am a big fan of oversized sweaters and shorts, I buy almost all my sweaters and t-shirts in a size XL. My clothing is very basic – I am a big fan of white and pastel items. They give you that clean, simple look, but you can [easily] spice it up with some accessories and eye-catching shoes.”
I’m currently working on… my own webshop.
“It is filled with handmade items and some jewelry, which I hope to introduce during the summer, Also, at the moment I am very busy with my 3-month internship at the beautiful fashion city, London.”
My fashion inspiration comes from… a lot of things.
“But most of all, they come from the latest catwalks at Fashion Week. I always get inspired by beautiful, clean designs or the all-over-the top and almost unwearable pieces. They give me a lot of inspiration for DIY projects and new outfit combinations!”
I started my fashion blog… to express myself.
“In the beginning I posted a lot about projects I was working on [from my] Fashion Design school. But, after a while I started to blog about my new fashion items and outfits. When I was blogging about my outfits, I found out that it inspired people and they gave me a lot of positive feedback. So my followers supported and inspired me to take my blog more seriously.”
My heritage influenced my style… to be different.
“Well, I am half Indonesian and half Dutch. I love the Netherlands and there are a lot of different styles and some great style icons. But I grew up in a little city in the east side of the Netherlands. I always loved fashion even when I was younger and I didn’t want to wear what everybody had. So I started to wear whatever I liked during my final year of primary school. Sometimes people can be very mean to you just because you look different, but I never cared about all the bad things people said. I want to show it’s ok to wear whatever you like and that fashion is everywhere, even in the little cities! Just dare to be different!”
Living in London, Ontario has influenced by my style… to wear whatever I like.
“Well, I have lived in London for four weeks now, and I have never seen so many different styles and cultures before! It’s nice to see that everyone just wears whatever they like without being weird [about it]. The people in London are the ones who inspire me to wear just whatever I like.”
My current beauty obsession is… soft pink lipstick!
“I wear it almost everyday (because most times I just wear mascara and a bit of foundation). [The lipstick] gives my face just a bit more color and I think I have done that for almost two years now! So it’s def an obsession.”
The trends I love this season are… cut-outs and sheers .
“I love the cut-out trend, sheers, and the transparent shoe trend. I love the combination of a simple dress with a little detail, like a cut-out or transparant heels. It gives your look just that extra touch!”
My dream job is… something with fashion!
“Although I love a lot of things, I just cant live without it, and I can spend all my time on it. But I hope to become a bigger fashion blogger and I hope to work as a stylist or trend spotter for a magazine!”
My top 8 items from Chictopia Shop are…
1) Black Bandage Bikini, $86
2) Qupid Metal Heel Pump, $34
3) Flatform SHoes, $68
4) Black Clear Circle Sunglasses, $15
5) Teenage Dirtbag Snapback Hat, $28
6) Sasha Cut-Out LBD, $65
7) Snow White Sequin Clutch, $40
8) Black/Neon Chain Bracelet, $12
Five years from now I hope to see myself… having a fun and busy life.
“With a lot of fashion around me. I also hope to visit more fashion weeks and events, and I hope I will work in the beautiful fashion industry.”
If I could wear one brand for the rest of my life, it would be… Alexander Wang or Balenciaga!
“I saw the latest collection from Alexander Wang for Balenciaga recently and I was sold, Everything that he designs just blows my mind.”
