harbordistrict 's Thoughts:

Orange and black, classic Halloween colors, no? But I figure, if its good enough for Sonia Rykiel, it’s good enough for me.

This is actually a vintage maxi skirt I purchased in the most gorgeous tawny orange. Sometimes it reminds me of an orange creamsicle. It’s a soft velveteen fabric. I love it, the way it hangs on my hips and the beautiful pleats… but I wanted to try something new with it. So here, I pulled it up as a dress, belted it at the waist, and pulled a thick ruffle over the belt. To tone down the look, I added a little black cardi and my new black boots. Despite the somewhat quirky color combo, I think it works, at least good enough for running errands. What do you think? Oh and more details on the skirt at my shop, plus its for sale here. Below, a shot of the skirt originally how I tend to wear it – very boho… and a few other examples of orange & black totally working together!

And ignore my impossibly skinny calves. They are just nonexistant. :(

I think you totally made it work. I love it. I dont think theres a rule re: orange and black and if there is....who cares. rules in clothing are not that much fun anyway.

great appropriation. it's amazing what a belt and a little hiking-up can do.
