After the kickoff of Chictopia’s Sock it to Me iPhone app contest and the rise of adorable animal face socks popping up everywhere, it seems that there’s something to be said about socks: THEY’RE BACK.
Not typical knee high socks— I’m talking below the knee and above the ankle with designs like animal faces, geometric prints, dainty frills, lace, and my favorite: sheer. Sheer socks are the perfect accessory for those who don’t really like to accessorize (raises hand). They’re barely there, dressy (but not too dressy) and sexy (but not too sexy). Some tips on how to wear them:
1. Wear them with oxfords, strappy heels, or booties. I like them with flats because I like the masculine look of sheer socks, but if you prefer to avoid looking like you went through your grandma’s sock drawer, you can sex ‘em up with a pair of heels.
2. Get them in cool colors, prints, or plain black/beige. There are so many awesome designs for sheer socks. TPRBT, Rachel Comey, ASOS, and Club Couture are a few of the brands I know that carry some great ones in different styles. If you want a classic sheer sock in black or beige, American Apparel is great for those.
3. Wear them all the way up or get a shorter pair. When you wear socks, proportions matter so that you don’t shorten your legs too much. I kind of mix it up between the two depending on what I’m wearing it with. With short shorts or skirts, pull socks all the way up. With a mid-length bottom, wear sheer socks that hit at the ankle.
