I live down the street from Place des Vosges. Sometimes I just have to say that to remind myself that it’s true; the first six months of my year in Paris are quickly coming to an end and it all still feels like a wonderful dream – particularly on sunny days. This might sound a bit sentimental, and it probably is, but Paris has the bluest skies I’ve ever seen. Taking this year has been the best thing I could have done for myself; I’ve had the chance to go on so many wonderful adventures and to do simple things I just didn’t have time for in my old life, like ballet and sketching and mid-week walks. The word journey has a bit of a false ring to it, with so many self-help books making promises about journies and self-discovery and true happiness, but I’m spending another six months in Paris and that time will be about everything but the destination {which is still unknown.} Touchstone Crystal kindly sent me a beautiful necklace inscribed with the phrase Freedom to dream, love and journey together and the words, which I would have shrugged off six months ago, seemed rather poignant – these days, I don’t think at all about where I’m going, just about how I’m going to spend my time getting there. And I feel pretty lucky.
