Canadian blogger, Alyssa Lau or better known as her lively screenname, ALYYYSSAALAUU, offers a fresh take on the grunge femme by contrasting pieces like sky high platforms with cool plaids and loose silhouettes. Not so ‘easy’ to pull off, the fashionista strategically brings the 90s back with her spunky attitude and relaxed staples. Through her blog, Alyssa lets us in on her grunge life and love for the past decade. Read on to see how she keeps it fresh.
So tell us, how did you end up with the blog name, Ordinary People, and what’s it like sharing the blog with your cousin?
Fashion blogging has always seemed like a very exclusive group, so when my cousin and I first started, we wanted to show people that really anybody can do it with a little bit of imagination and creativity. About sharing a blog with my cousin, he’s very easy going and blogging with him makes the internet a little less scary!
How has living in Canada (and any other cities) influenced your style?
Edmonton (Canada) is pretty conservative in regards to general fashion, but there are definitely many people who express themselves creatively through their clothes! It’s these people who inspire me to become more creative with fashion.
What else inspires you to wear certain outfits?
Usually street style photos or other fashion-related photos!
We know you have many upcoming gigs – but what was your memorable project thus far?
One of the most memorable projects was being the “It Girl” for Canada’s Fashion Magazine!
What’s the weirdest pitch you’ve ever gotten for a project, and did you do it?
I haven’t gotten many, but maybe it’s because I filter my e-mail quite a lot. One of the weirder ones was a promotion for scrap booking, which I’m much too lazy for!
Do you have any advice for aspiring Chictopian Style Icons/ fashion bloggers?
Keep doing what you love and find a way to express who you are!

Do you plan on working in the fashion industry anytime soon?
I’m not quite sure what the fashion industry holds in stock for me!
If you could wear one item throughout the whole year, what would it be?
I always say this, but a classic pair of black ankle boots.
