Yes, I wear my boots laced like this, but I make sure I have a sock on, for extra support, I lace them up tight against my legs, I haven't had too much of a problem, yet. Make sure you buy extra long laces. They work best. :)

This is an outfit I wore to get Groceries in China Town. It must be the Soviet in me, but I use Plaid shopping bags to carry everything. I even use one as my weekender. Not, to mention they are so useful when buying groceries, no one likes sore hands.
My cat got in the way, you can see her by my foot.
