The Nicole Miller Fall/Winter 2013 runway show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week was inspired by raiding a boyfriend’s closet. It gave classic mens separates some downtown street chic while adding undeniable femininity. Most impressive of all, she made the classic but overdone fedora seem completely cool again.
The front row was lined with celebs; Nigel Barker, Nichole Galicia, Eve, Ashlee Simpson and Leigh Lezark all sat together in the best seats in the house.
Trends
- All Black Everything – The show began with mostly monochromatic outfits— head to toe black outfits and some touches of grey in the mix.
The trick to keeping such outfits interesting is to play up the textures and Nicole Miller did just that. Mixing in leather and pony hair for texture, chiffons for movement and furs for volume, all black was anything but boring at this show.
- Mixed Prints – Mixed prints continue to make appearances after many seasons, and this time, we see as many as 3 prints worn together and somehow looking seamless. Muted paisleys, colorful baroque swirls, and reflected florals in similar color palettes are paired to prove that clashing isn’t a bad thing.
- Braided Knits – The cable knit sweater was reinvented to be absolutely phenomenal in this show. The knits were intricately braided to form beautiful backs and sleeve details with small cutouts revealing the delicate layers underneath. With the current cold weather, it’s comforting to see pieces that can perform both functionally (for warmth) and fashionably.
Beauty
The models all had combed-through waves, for an easy going and effortless look. In terms of makeup, there was a focus on defined and smokey creases for eyes and understated lips.
