Brigitte Bardot is my favorite style icon from the 1960s. People label her as a “sex kitten” and provocative, but I think there is much more to her image than that. What I like about her style is her bold femininity and her almost child-like, free-spirited attitude. She wasn’t afraid to let her personality shine through and that made her all the more lovely. I love her BIG, blonde hair and that fact that it wasn’t always perfect. She had the best cat eyes, with minimal eye shadow, which to me, seems low maintenance (which I’m a fan of). She also had a healthy, (not anorexic) feminine figure, and really embraced it.
A few months ago, my friend Mark Leubers, a fashion photographer in NYC, Crista Cabanas, a film and fashion stylist also in NYC, and I did a Bardot inspired shoot on top of our friend Kelly’s rooftop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I did my own hair and makeup for the shoot and Crista provided the clothes and accessories. Doing this shoot with good friends really helped me channel the Bardot mentality: to just let go and have fun :)
