NoraFinds 's thoughts:

Say hello to my first DIY post in 2013. I had always made pieces based on vintage patterns, but I thought it was time to make something for the summer. After all, the midriffs have been a street-style phenomenon and a trend worth sporting. And if you are in Sydney this weekend you can appreciate a nice and breezy outfit like this!

I can’t draw my own patterns so I used a 50s pencil skirt pattern and cut the hem higher to make a mini skirt. Darting was also involved in the pattern, which is a great traditional way to produce a better fit. With a 1.5m fabric, I managed to do the lining with the same fabric and also made a matching bandeau top. I made the bandeau top slightly wider than usual because if you’re like me you’d like some extra fabric to cover that lunch belly sometimes.

Love,
