Nowadays, it’s simple to start your own fashion blog and obtain the accessories to do so, i.e., purchasing a high-quality camera, getting on various social media sites, etc. However, what really distinguishes a successful fashion blogger from an average one is having a personable relationship with your environment. This Chictopian Style Icon seems to utilize this attribute effortlessly by interacting with her readers, engaging in fresh yet personable content, and taking artistic photos. Let’s go ahead and meet Jenny, aka Jamour, who has a knack for the arts, aestheticism, and photography.
How did you get into fashion blogging, and how did you come up with your blog name, Neon Blush?
As most others, I wanted a creative outlet when I was going through my most mundane and stressful quarter of college. I was very interested in photography and fashion so naturally, I wanted to try out blogging about fashion and personal style. The name “Neon Blush” came along because my friends used to call me ‘Neon Lights’ as my ‘Kim Possible’ nickname. It sort of sounds like my name, “Jenny Ong”, and so I wanted to add in ‘blush’ to sort of neutralize/lighten the loudness of ’neon’… I guess it kind of sums up my style.
We know you reside in LA, but do any other cities influence your style, too?
Indefinitely, I think New York will always have an influence on me, or at least I try to keep it in mind. New York oozes effortless cool with practicality — and that’s something that’ll never go out of style.
Other than fashion, what are your other passions?
I have a love for art (drawing and watercolor), graphic design, running, and acting (dramas more specifically).
Let’s say a Chictopian is travelling to Los Angeles for the first time, how would you describe the street style of the city?
LA street style can be summed up safely, I think, in three ways, or in combination of all these: “laid-back”, “grungy”, and “boho”.
We know you have a lot of projects up your sleeve – but what was your memorable project thus far?
One of my favorites is the shoot I did with Forever 21. It was a full day shoot, and it was on-location, so we got to visit different spots scattered in LA and Long Beach, in an RV full of goodies that another girl and I got to pick / style from.
What’s the weirdest pitch you’ve ever gotten for a project, and did you do it?
This might not be really weird for others… to be fair, I didn’t read the entire email BUT it started with “Dear blogger” and the impersonal greeting was enough for me to ignore the rest of the email.
Do you have any tips for Chictopians who want to follow in your footsteps in being a successful online star?
I don’t consider myself an online star whatsoever… but I think to gain a wider audience for one’s own personal fashion blog, it’s important to:
1) take clear and nice photos
2) acknowledge trends but ultimately stick to YOUR personal style
3) connect your profile with other modes of social media
4) have a voice!
I’m only beginning to realize this, but I think it’s important to show yourself not only through photos but through what you write in text. It’s very hard finding your ‘voice’ through writing, but when you do, the content sticks.

We’re not surprised that Chictopian Style Icons become buddy-buddy after a while. Who’s your buddy in Chictopia/or who would you like to be friends with and why?
I think I first noticed Kathleen, aka KathleenCarla, through Chictopia and got to meet her some time last year. She is the sweetest!
The new year’s coming up – what would you hope to achieve in the year 2013?
I don’t really believe in resolutions, but I guess… I’m hoping to invest more time in things that my heart often wanders to in thought—travel, friends, committing to certain hobbies. I can’t say I regret anything that’s happened or that I regret not doing things I’ve been wanting to do, just that every year I always seek to do more of what I love.
We just love Jenny’s down to earth persona. Do you have any questions? Comment below and she may just answer them!
