Philip and I arrived late to the Sunday afternoon Matthew Ames show, but we were able to catch a glimpse of the last half of the collection from behind the heads of other late arrivals. It was lovely to see the clothes in motion, I feel like the clothes Ames creates are very movement driven and a bit of that is lost in photographs. Some of the color combos didn’t work for me (the red & blue and that mossy green), but the neutral pieces really stole my heart. I loved the monochrome ensembles as well. Overall, the collection was very Matthew Ames, although perhaps a bit more Jedi than usual. The thing that draws me to his clothes is the ease of his designs. It all looks like crazy comfortable monastery-wear, but on the right girl with the right attitude it can look devastatingly chic. I hope that as I age and my style progresses I can become a ‘Matthew Ames woman’. Haha.
What are your thoughts on the Matthew Ames aesthetic?
