Timless Tartan

I love a good wool tartan. A pleated, full skirt or jacket is great but a tartan suit is the ultimate find. I get most of my tartans at thrift stores. They are a surprisingly frequently discarded item. This suit is particularly special. My Granny Sally made it to wear as she left on her honeymoon in 1949.

Wool tartans are usually crafted into beautifully tailored classic pieces. Why so many of these end up at the Salvation Army, I have no idea, but I have collected so many that now I have to force myself to leave them behind. Tartans are timeless and always polish an outfit. Wear a tartan skirt with a button shirt or a jacket with jeans, t-shirt and pumps. Save a tartan suit for special occasions when you want to make a statement and stand out. So go, get thrifting and save some granny’s tartan from the musty thrift store racks.
