Today I was thinking: what if Saved by the Bell had a reunion episode? Would Lisa still be the obvious fashionista? Would Belding be fully balding? Would they be ditching their scrunchies instead of classes? Most importantly, would their hair be as big?
There won’t be a reunion episode anytime soon thanks to Screech’s bad rep, but because of the huge 90’s resurgence in fashion, it’s easy to jump to our own conclusions. We imagine that this is what the ladies of the iconic teen sitcom might look like today if they were fashion buffs! Let’s take a look at some stylish Chictopians with a couple who straight up look like Saved by the Bell doppelgangers.
Kelly Kapowski
Kelly was the head cheerleader. She was the girl you wanted to be (she was dating Zack Morris, so duh) or the girl you wanted to be best friends with. Her style stuck to her sweet, girly character: body-con floral print dresses, bralettes, baggy off the shoulder sweaters, big wavy hair, and classic white sneakers.
→ Kelly doppelganger: Natalie Liao of La Vagabond Dame
Natalie’s showing us how sweet malibu style transforms into sexy grunge. Natalie toughens up the 90’s body-con (actually a Mink Pink dress) with a motorcycle jacket, leather bag, and a pair of Jeffrey Campbell buckle booties. She’s got a hat on in this outfit pic, but don’t worry, her hair is just as big as Kelly’s.
Lisa Turtle
Lisa was the stylish shopping addict with a lot of sass and every girl’s 90’s style icon. She’s the Dionne of high school, experimenting with fashion like it was nobody’s business. Colorblocking? Yes. Funky patterns? Yup. Existential? Full on.
→ Lisa doppelganger: Tamara Gonzalez Perea of Macademian Girl
Tamara’s style just screams Lisa Turtle. Not only is she crazy colorful and mixes prints like a pro, but she isn’t afraid to go there with fashion. She’s a young Anna dello Russo in the making, just like Lisa.
Jessie Spano
Raise your hand if you remember the episode when Jessie got addicted to caffeine pills while studying for an exam (if you don’t remember, you may need to rewatch her I’m So Excited, I’m So Excited bit). The hard working feminista dressed modestly and smartly. While the rest of the girls in school were baring their legs and midriffs, Jessie stuck to her “men are pigs” attitude throughout high school, usually wearing high waisted jeans and keeping her style classic and simple.
→ Jessie doppelganger: Martina Martiala of Little Black Salmiak
Blogger-to-watch Martina always looks well put together with staple pieces like oversized coats, denim vests, and a good pair of jeans. She’s also got a boyish charm to her that reminds me of Jessie.
Tori Scott
The ultimate anti-fashion girl. She never cared for dressing up or lipstick, but she also never left her house without her big motorcycle jacket. Despite hating the Tori episodes, I think she might’ve been one of the coolest girls on the show. If she moved on to the college years, she’d be the whiskey drinker.
→ Tori doppelganger: Stacey Belko of Devore le beau Monstre
One of my favorite bloggers, Stacey, gives off some serious anti-fashion vibes. Her outfit updates Tori’s menswear look with a beanie, nose ring, metal jewelry, and some skin.
