The end of Thanksgiving weekend is much like the second the ball drops – one signifies the beginning of a new year, and the other signifies the beginning of the holiday season. Basically, whether you like it or not people, we are now in it.
Fortunately for you, we may be in holiday season but we’re not in the thick of it yet. So remember how last year you scrambled to get gifts for all the good people in your life? Well not for you, at least this year, because we’ve outlined 10 gifts for everyone on your list that are anything but predictable. Whether you’re looking to simply stuff their stocking or really gift them, read on for the right answer.
1. BookBook iPad Case, $79.99
Starting from the top, what do you get for your dad? If your dad is anything like mine, he’s too practical for most gifts…but he isn’t too practical for an iPad. Unfortunately you might not have enough to give him the iPad itself, but assuming he already has one (or someone else gets it for him), help him look as smart as he is while he’s actually using it.
2. Lens Cup, $28.00
Your boyfriend might just be getting into photography, or he’s already dove in full force. Encourage him while giving him a gift that will freak out his co-workers, at least once.
3. Rainbow Cloudscape iPhone Case, $19.90
You know that close friend who is less than graceful but very fashionable? As a not-so-graceful person myself I can tell you I destroy iPhone cases pretty fast. Give a girl into pretty things – but not so light on her feet – the gift of a gorgeous iPhone case. If she’s going to drop it all over the place, at least let her do it in style.
4. Number A Skeleton Fingers Bracelet, $72.00
You have a friend who is very, very chic. She’s so chic, she owns everything she could possibly need to be chic, so finding her a gift that is unique is key. This skeleton bracelet from Number A is chic and different.
5. Fingerstache Temporary Tattoos, $7.20
Should you participate in a white elephant gift exchange, I say give a gift that keeps on giving during the entire party. Fingerstache tattoos were a mistake trend, but slap on a temporary one and suddenly there are endless silly Instagram opportunities, without the later regrets.
6. Blurb Instagram Book, starting at $10.95
Remember the days when we would tout around disposable cameras, then digital cameras, and then we just switched to using our phones? I don’t know about you guys, but my whole year is on Instagram at this point and nowhere else. The modern version of giving a good friend a framed photo or a scrapbook, print out your best snaps of you and your bestie into this neat little book so she can remember your year together, too.
7. Thrifted and Modern Watercolor Print Dress, $62
A shirtdress, to me is a sign that the wearer is a sophisticated and mature person, regardless of the print or color. Okay, your recent grad cousin might not be sophisticated or mature just yet, but if she’s starting a new job soon she might want to be. Fortunately, you don’t have to sacrifice style for sophistication with this watercolor shirtdress.
8. Lolita Lempicka Perfume, $92.00
My poor mom. The entire time we were growing up, my poor dad hadn’t a clue about gifting. Since he’s such a practical person (see #1), every holiday or birthday seemed to bring her a new rice cooker or tea pot. Even if your dad isn’t as clueless as mine, remember how much your mom does for you and get her a gift in which she can truly pamper herself. Not everyone knows Lolita Lempika perfume, but hit up Sephora and find the tester – the scent is fresh, light, and simply delightful.
9. Fuck Yeah 1990s Lisa Frank Flask, $14.00
I like supporting small businesses and a dude who decorates flasks with Lisa Frank stickers and sells them off of his Tumblr definitely counts. Your Tumblr-obsessed friend (and hey, we’re all bloggers here), assuming she needs a flask, would love this.
10. Cher & Tai Clueless Candles, $24 for set
If you and your friends are constantly quoting Clueless then we think this may be the perfect gift. Our fave is the “You’re a virgin who can’t drive” Virgin Mary candle.
