The influential Dolce and Gabbana Fall/Winter 2012 runway presentation was full of beautiful Baroque-inspired details. It’s clear that this runway show has much to do with the dominance of the black and gold trend this season. The lavish details of the gold hardware mixed with rich black lace has us constantly reaching for all our gold accessories!
The attention to detail at Dolce and Gabanna was stunning and the handbags all had a similar element— beautiful gold chains covered in gold, black and pearl baubles. Today we’re going to show you how we made these simple purse chains to drape on your own purses and when you’re done, you can wear as necklaces as well!
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
- a length of gold chain, 42" x $0.50/inch
- gold headpins, $2.28 for 20
- gold jump rings, $1.44 for 20
- black glass rondelle beads, $6.33 for 72
- white pearl beads, $4.37 for 10
- gold flower pendants, $4.10 each
- gold lobster clasps, $1.25 each
- needlenose or jewelry pliers
You can buy all the beading supplies from BeadsDirect.
TUTORIAL:
[ INSERT PIN ] – Take one of your beads and insert the headpin into it. This head pin will be your method of attaching the beads to the chain eventually.
[ CUT & LOOP ] – Using your needle nose pliers and clippers, trim the pin down and curl the end into a loop. This might take some practice! Do the same to all of the beads you will be using. I used 10 pearl beads and 10 black rondelles.
[ OPEN RING ] – Now grab a jump ring and use two pairs of pliers to open it carefully.
[ LOOP CHAIN & BEAD ] – Hold the ring with one pair of pliers and hook it onto a single chain link (any random one will do!) and then loop the bead on as well.
[ CLOSE RING ] – Use your pliers to close the jump ring.
[ REPEAT ] – Continue attaching the beads along the entire length of the chain. Attach them randomly or in a patterned order.
[ ATTACH CLASPS ] – Then open another jump ring and attach the lobster clasps on both ends of the chain. I doubled up the chain so that it wasn’t so long!
[ CLIP ON ] – Then clip it onto your favourite black purse to transform it into a Dolce and Gabbana inspired accessory!
