Did you ever have a color you thought hated you? There was a time I opined I was at war with the color yellow but more on that in a moment. On today’s post I’m continuing my 3 days of work appropriate denim. It also means I’m one post closer to finishing my archived photo’s and posting new ones with my new camera. As I mentioned previously when allowed to wear denim in MY office environment it still needs to look polished and professional. The starting point for this look was this gorgeous yellow blouse. Yellow has always been a difficult color for me or so I thought. I’ve since changed my contrary opinion and decided everyone can wear every color. Ever hear the cliche “The devil’s in the details”? Well when it comes to color the devil’s in the shade or hue.
For instance, a pastel shade of yellow near my face makes me look jaundice… Not cute. However, choosing a bold, brighter shade of the color is fine and much better for my skin and hair coloring. Do you have a color you find hard to wear? Is yellow one of them? Adding additional colors with this cardigan makes the yellow blouse stand out even more. Not everyone is comfortable with all this color but I grew up in a family where color is king. One of my grandmothers dyed her hair bright orange red and considered the word “neutral” a four letter word.
Wanting to maintain a bright look to help me through a long day of work this blouse was the perfect choice. Adding the cardigan, while bright softens the vibrant yellow color. I paired this with a darker denim which I’d describe as a deep indigo with slight sheen. These jeans are incredibly comfortable! I veered back towards brightness with these orange Tory Burch flats. I have worn the hell out of these shoes! If you’ve never had an orange pair of shoes go get some, NOW! They are incredibly versatile and I’m so sad she’s not making this color any more. If you can hear me Tory PLEASE make the orange color again!!! I’ll be devastated when I have to give these up for good! To keep things from going completely sweet add a mixed metal necklace like this one. As you see I got quite friendly with some bracelets too. I topped it off with a warm, tawny colored bag to tie it all together.
Do you have a fashion opinion you’ve rethought in your “wiser years”? Was I right to welcome a little more of the sunshine color into my life? It’s fun to try something unfamiliar and so much about personal style involves experimentation, whether big or small. So today’s lesson? Don’t be afraid to change your opinion in regards to style, fashion or otherwise . You might just find that your previous adversary turns out to be an exciting new friend. So don’t be surprised if you see me actively searching for more Not So Mellow Yellow.
