I find myself rotating menswear pieces through my wardrobe quite often these days. Though for this challenge, I went with a very literal interpretation. Mr. T was actually part of the inspiration for this look. He has a very literal sense of humor and that got me thinking… I’ve also wanted to wear this skirt for some time but hadn’t actually gotten around to it. The colors in this look remind me of boarding school which in turn reminds me of Fall. It may be warming up for Indian Summer in SF but the rest of the country is starting to welcome cooler weather. In “normal” cities Fall is my favorite season and the colors I chose here play into that thought. There is nothing like the leaves changing color, a crispness in the air and the promise of all things cuddly. It also reminds me of reading a good book in my guy’s over sized clothes while drinking hot chocolate. What do you love about Fall?
Do you think menswear is easier to work into your wardrobe when the weather turns cool? The only thing I technically “borrowed” from Mr. T is the tie (which he may not get back). I wanted this look to have that prim and proper feel to it that a tie gives. I thought about adding oxfords but it became a bit too masculine so I kept with the ladylike pumps. While the shirt may look white in these photos in reality it’s a slight blueish purple. I added some jewelry with a little bit of sparkle but all in classic shapes to keep the look clean. Of course I can’t end this post without giving the bag some attention. I adore the 2 tone color and texture. It reminds me of a small satchel you might have for carrying your books to class. How do you think this turned out? Would you wear this look? If you’re wondering… I did. I wore it to work yesterday and the reaction was quite positive.
Gender bending fashion never REALLY goes out of style. Rather it seems relegated to the ever revolving fashion door. Few things are sexier than a woman dressed in menswear. I’m glad this trend repeatedly works it’s way back into the style scene. Like any fashionable woman it somehow finds new ways to make it’s mark reminding us why we love it. You may also agree, sometimes it’s fun to Borrow from the boys.
