The sun was blazing outside today and inside at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in the Lincoln Center, the mini-bottles of prosecco were free-flowing. The installation of a giant white gazebo in the center of The Box definitely had us feeling the summer and the collection was clearly focused on accentuating femininity. With the soft colours and delicate fabrics, Candela wants to keep classic girly looks on trend. The presentation outline describes the collection with one quote,
“No matter what happens, always keep your childhood innocence. It’s the most important thing.” – Federico Fellini
Trends
→ Sweet Boho. This ready to wear collection is made for that sweet boho girl that’s going for a more romantic bohemian look rather than the edgy festival-chic. The light weight eyelet cottons, laces and maxi length tiers are given a more chic feel with hand beaded details and sequined and embroidered details.
→ Nude on White. While white on white has been big this season, it looks like designers are starting to mix in the nude and white colour combo. Although it’s an obvious pairing, the sharpness of white really freshens up the boring nudes. These colours were seen together in at least a third of the outfits & will surely be a hit in the warmer months.
→ Lace on Lace. As pattern mixing has suddenly become “socially acceptable”, it seems that lace mixing should soon have it’s moment as well. It’s broken up in the collection by being paired with contrasting colours or with other knit textures.
→ Spring Sweaters. At the end of the summer, I definitely saw the rise of loosely woven knits paired with tiny short shorts. The contrast of a sweater with summery bottoms really balances so that you’re not showing too much skin, which fits in perfectly with Candela’s theme of childhood innocence.
Beauty
The hair by Bumble & Bumble all screamed care-free classic summer. The ladies either had beachy natural waves or amazing braids. The braids varied from simple fishtails to braids snaking all over the head and gathering into a low chignon. Makeup by Bobbi Brown was definitely a natural look with only a soft fuchia lip for some colour.
