The Joy Cioci presentation at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week was for Spring/Summer 2013 but the designer clearly had her focuses set on the warm Summer rather than Spring. The models were barefooted and standing in mounds of sand as they playfully danced along to the tunes spun by DJ Fannie Chan. The collection consisted of summery details such as reef and fishscale print and even neoprene wetsuits for a sportswear flare.
Trends
- Sea inspired prints. The water reflection backdrop gave the set a very beach filled atmosphere as it filled the wall with a light blue tint reminding us of the the ocean. This same print was seen in several items of clothing in this collection mixed with prints of abstract reefs as well. In a colour palette from light to dark blues and a few fresh greens, Joy Cioci was definitely keeping the looks oceanic.
- Embellishments. The designer continued with the sea-inspirations by using tiny pearls, shells and beads to add elegance to traditionally bland beach-wear. It was particularly gorgeous when strings of pearls were mixed with crystals and meticulously adorned the soft blue gowns.
- Lace. There was plenty of lace and mesh seen throughout the pieces, from lacey bodices on flowing maxi dresses to full lace caps.
Beauty
The models had their hair perfected in sleek 1920’s pincurls or secured into sychronized-swimmer-like lace caps. The makeup was kept simple, with a heavy focus on ethereal blue and white eye shadows. To match the heavily embellished pieces, the ladies had beautifully opulent caviar nails done by CND.
Overall, this show was such a pleasure to attend because of the catchy tunes playing and the contagious energy of the models. It was great to see the girls standing barefoot, kicking around sand and dancing around like modern flappers and smiling for the cameras with joy.
