When the scene was set for Nicole Miller’s Spring/Summer 2013 line to be displayed, the music that poured out of the speakers this late afternoon said everything that needed to be said about it. The lights dimmed and energetic dance music poured out of the speakers. And out came Nicole Miller’s girl.
Nicole Miller’s girl is that cool girl all grown up. You know, the one that sat next to you in history class who might have had pink ombre hair before anyone else did, who you so desperately wanted to talk to and be friends with, but never could work up the nerve. She first came out in a long black leather jacket and graphic print leggings, and even as her look softened, presumably to fit a different occasion, she stayed true to her personal aesthetic. The cool girl wore blue leather shorts, a leather boyfriend jacket, sheer hi-lo tops, paneled dresses, graphic black and white, bold digital prints of floral and galaxy, extreme hi-lo dresses that were both modern and chic. The Spring/Summer 2013 line embodied all of the trends we currently love in the style of a girl we all can’t help but love as well. Models walked with an energetic bounce, and one had orange and green hair – all of which told me that these models might actually be those cool girls in reality.
“It was really edgy for Nicole Miller. These were some pieces that just kicked ass – she did a really good job on the dresses. The paneled dresses were amazing,” said blogger Ria Michelle. “Give me not all of it, but a lot of it.”
However, placed side by side Nicole Miller’s Fall/Winter 2012 collection, this spring one was less than groundbreaking and not nearly as memorable. While it hailed a lot of trends we’re wearing now and gladly would continue to wear, it doesn’t seem that Nicole Miller will be ushering in any new trends for Spring/Summer 2013. There were stunning pieces and a few dresses that were red carpet-worthy in my opinion, but Nicole Miller isn’t going to be the saving grace of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
