Plans has a special meaning to me, Summer Skin in particular. I have a particular set of vivid memories linked to it and every time I listen I get shivers of nostalgia. It’s early autumn, school’s back and I’m sitting on a small beach, the sun shining bright and clear. The sky is a brilliant blue and Mt Fuji sticks out like a sore thumb on the horizon. We’re meant to be kayaking but the wind out at sea is too strong. You couldn’t tell from here, it is a gentle breeze that plays with our hair and tickles our bare toes. Since we’ve made the effort of coming all the way, our chaperone allows us to spend the day bathing in the sun and sea, soaking up the last ebbs of summer. After lunch I fall asleep side by side with a good friend. With an ear bud each, the sweet songs of Death Cab for Cutie add a touch of honey to an already perfect day.
