This post is brought to you by Nordstrom
After a seemingly endless heat spell in the DC area, we finally got some rain and cooler temperatures this weekend. This got me thinking towards fall and, as you can imagine, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to get a head start on my fall shopping at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! Top of my “fall must-haves” list right now are bold prints, leather pieces, soft knits for layering, jewel-toned accessories, and dark florals.
Since I’ve been focused on spicing up the fall work wardrobe with eye-catching prints, I was excited to see the resurgence of this trend on fall runways from the likes of Mary Katrantzou, Kenzo, Dries Van Noten, and Proenza Schouler. Needless to say, when I saw the beautiful geometric design on this cardigan by Tory Burch, I pounced! Cardigans are key for freezing cold offices like mine and it doesn’t hurt that it’s unbelievably soft and comfy, too.
When it comes to work wear, I always find it tricky trying to strike a balance between office-appropriate and integrating my own personal twist. A classic cardigan in an unusual print is the perfect piece for mixing and matching with my business staples like this Ann Taylor button-down, Zara slim black pants, and patent Theyskens Theory pumps. As a quirky personal touch, I added this lady tie by DC designer Ginger Root Design – a subtle nod toward print-mixing, but not overkill (as I am wont to do) for the office.
I imagine this cardigan will mix equally well with other basics. When added to jeans, a graphic print tee, and a pair of badass statement shoes, the cardi adds an unexpected preppy flair to an otherwise “downtown” look. A short pleated skirt in a fun bright color, a classic oxford button-down, and a pair of sleek patent mary janes would create a very cool collegiate vibe. The possibilities are virtually endless and I hope to share some of these ideas in future Chictopia posts!
Nordstrom is having their Anniversary Sale from Friday, July 20 – Wednesday July 26. Only a few days left to stock up on your fall essentials before prices go back up, so you best get on it!
