During the summer months, it’s easy to become fixated on maintaining (or attaining) those bodacious beach bods. But what about our sexy tresses? I can’t recall any slow-mo clips of scraggily-haired beach babes running down the strip. That would surely be a Hollywood film faux pas!
So here’s 3 quick tips to keep your locks looking luscious all summer long!
1. Pool Prep
It isn’t chlorine that causes murky green pool hair, but rather color deposits from oxidized metals in the water. Blondes especially should shield their tresses from pool water. Prior to swimming, wet hair with fresh water and slather conditioner on your ends. Dampened hair has limited capacity to absorb pool water in comparison to dry hair and the conditioner will act as an extra protective shield. After swimming, rinse with a cleansing shampoo such as Bumble and Bumble’s Sunday Shampoo or Pureology’s Purify to rid your hair of any additional build-up.
2. Beach Bums
Wrap your hair in a cute top-knot or a headscarf to protect those ends from the elements. Sand and beach water can roughen up your hair shaft, leaving them dull and brittle. Even dampening and shielding your ends with MoroccanOil can reduce the chances of hair damage at the beach. For you color-treated gals, look into a sun-protectant spray such as Pureology Colour Max. Yes, they even make sunscreen for your hair!
3. Trim It
Do your locks a favor. Stand up, go to the mirror and take a looksy. How are those ends? If they look and feel like straw, I’d suggest a haircut and a deep conditioning treatment such as MoroccanOil Restorative Hair Mask. You don’t want those ends to start splitting up your hair shaft! Oh, and don’t pick those nasty split ends. It actually rips the hair cuticle even further. The more you know!
