EmilyLane 's thoughts:

Pattern mixing is one of my favorite trends, but I usually like to be a little more subtle and not scream “I’m mixing patterns!” Even though that can look great, it usually doesn’t fit my style. I like when the patterns are somewhat similar, or when one is closer to a neutral. Leopard for me is like a neutral, as are most stripes. When one pattern acts like a neutral it is really simple to mix another pattern because almost anything goes. One easy thing to do that usually looks good is keep in the same family. Use prints in similar colors or, like I did today, similar patterns. Because both my skirt and my jacket are somewhat organic circle patterns they compliment each other. I also think if you stick to classic pieces pattern mixing looks great too. Like a polka dotted blouse with a striped pencil skirt. Pattern mixing can be really subtle if you aren’t willing to go all the way and try out more bold versions of it.
