Yesterday I went to Liberty State Park for a picnic with some friends and it was a great start to the summer. It really felt like we were in a movie as we scream-sang Pocketful of Sunshine on the parkway. We brought our picnic basket stocked with vintage Coke bottles to a gravely area right by the water, and it didn’t even matter that we had to pry open our drinks using nail clippers after we made the assumption that the bottle caps were twist-off. The bottle caps were not twist off.
After our picnic we wandered down to the Hudson Bay to see the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty. We took a bunch of pictures and the people around us laughed as we modeled, making remarks about how “American” we were. But it didn’t matter, because we were free and young and happy. In that moment I realized how lucky I am to live in such an area that I can just casually go on adventures like this. I’m feeling really good about this summer. I want to go on adventures and document everything that happens and laugh and have fun with my friends.
We ended the night by playing Ouija board by candlelight in my basement and I started getting pretty philosophical about how we can’t change what happens around us, but we can harness our energy to make the most of it. We can take in everything around us, and simply enjoy.
Have a great weekend.
