Everyone knows the LBD rule: there should be at least one little black dress in the closet. If you ask me, it should be a SBD; simple black dress. When you google “LBD”, all you ever seem to get are fancy little black cocktail dresses. But, if you’re like me, then the frequency that you wear a cocktail style little black dress is slim. I have a strapless velvet “LBD” that has only been worn maybe once or twice in the two years that I’ve owned it. But the dress I have on, my “SBD”, gets worn at least two to three times a month. It’s such a simple dress, but it’s really easy to dress up and dress down. I can wear it with tights or high socks in the winter with either a cardigan or nice jacket/coat- or in the summer barelegged with heels or flats. I can wear it with fancy gold jewelry- or with colourful chunky beads!
So, if you ask me a “SBD” is more important than a “LBD”. Find something that’s comfortable, has a simple and flexible design, and that is flattering to you. I’m hesitant to use the word “flattering”, because what one person finds flattering, another might not. Especially in the plus size world. So go with what you like. But go with something that can easily be dressed up, or dressed down.
But, like any great piece in your closet, don’t go looking for it. Any shopping trip, online or in-store, is kind of an adventure. If you have blinders on, looking for that one piece, you’re likely to miss other gems.
…that’s about it. Have a good day and junk.
