As many of you many remember, this time a year ago Japan was struck by a 9.0 magnitude earthquake and a tsunami that left more than 385,000 people homeless, nearly 4,000 people missing, and over 15,000 people dead. Thankfully, many people and nations responded with help and assistance to a devastated Japan with aircrafts, naval ships, sailors and marines, search and rescue teams, and medical teams from all over the world. Today, Japan is doing much better and taking steps everyday to rebuild the country and the lives affected on 3.11.11.
If I have learned anything about fashion it is that completely interconnected with history, art, politics, and society. Karl Lagerfeld has said: ’ I am a fashion person, and fashion is not only about clothes — its about all kinds of change ’. So in light of these changes in history, it is important that we always remember what happened that day. Not only as a tribute to a country whose hope was lost but in order to resolve the challenges of humanity such as creating a world free of nuclear power. This way, we can all leave a mark on the world and in time, move toward a more peaceful and sustainable future.
