Amy got invited to a backstage wardrobe tour of Mamma Mia at the Orpheum Theater and guess who got to tag along as her photographer? Mamma Mia is in town and it is a must see for all you SF musical-goers out there. They’re here for two weeks so go buy tickets while you still can!
I grew up listening ABBA just as anyone whose parents rocked the 70s would. The upbeat songs I have grown to know and love just made it impossible for me not to sing along throughout the whole show. I felt major goosebumps when Kaye Tuckerman as Donna sang a heartfelt “The Winner Takes It All” (it reminded me if the time I burst into tears when I saw Elphaba singing “Defying Gravity” also at the Orpheum Theater). By the end of the show everybody got out of their seats and danced along to the closing number. I could tell the seniors were having an crazy nostalgic moment by the way they crowded up to the stage and danced as if they were at a 70s disco. It was so much fun!
The costumes were gorgeous. I couldn’t help but stare in awe at the color pallets they used. My favorite scene had to be the sunset wedding. The cast wore pinks, oranges, and beige which really made it feel like the sun was setting on the scene. It was gorgeous! I wasn’t prepared to see so many bright and crazy jumpsuits, it was a treat to see men actually dancing in those things (not to mention silver platform boots). And hello bell bottoms! lol.
There are no words to describe the energy and how great this show was. So go see for yourself, you’ll have a hell of a time :)
PS: I’m wearing 3 of my current favorite things. My gold bow tie I got on Chictopia Shop from yanhan81 , my Zara contrast panel coat I got on sale, and my Jason Wu for Target satchel that I found just lying around in the store’s fitting room (score!).
