Before coming to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, we were reading more about some of the designers who we hadn’t heard of. Norisol Ferrari, hails from Venezuela and was nurtured by drag queens and nightlife impresarios in New York City. She learned about fashion from experience and after interning for Carol Little Furs, she now specializes in using luxurious textiles like leathers and furs. I knew the moment I saw leather jackets and harnesses on the Norisol Ferrari website that I would be in love.
Despite the lack of photos online of previous collections, I had anticipated that this presentation of her Fall/Winter 2012 collection would be one of the contenders for being our favourite show of the week and we were definitely not let down. Her collection was full of dark, edgy inspirations and traditional victorian tailored looks.
LUXURIOUS TEXTILES
Norisol Ferrari continued to show her expertise with leathers and furs in her Fall/Winter 2012 collection. Many jackets had fur collars and trims, goat hair vests were featured and one jacket was made from exotic alligator leather and fur. Clearly, the fur trend will be sticking around for another year, at least.
MODERN VICTORIAN SILHOUETTES
Many of the items were influenced by traditional tailoring, with a focus on curve-hugging dresses and suits with feminine fits. A Victorian influence was evident through the leather bustiers, bustles on dresses, exagerrated sleeves and avant garde head gear.
COCO AND BREEZY
Norisol Ferrari’s use of mainly white mannequins, reminded us vaguely of the Alexander McQueen exhibit. Once entering the exhibition though, you quickly notice that standing in the center are two live models. After the initial realization that these two green and blonde mohawked girls are twins, you start to notice that the two have taken twin-dom to the extreme by choosing to get identical body modifications too. With their matching tattoos and piercings, these girls are as much of a show as the designs they are modeling.
SPOTTED
Brad Goreski was seen taking in the presentation and mingling with fellow guests.
