“Trendy”, “streamlined”, and “inspired” were just a few of the words guests used to describe last night’s Walter presentation. Another phrase frequently uttered: “I want that bag!”
When I arrived, the rooftop lounge at the Empire Hotel was thumping to the beat of a remixed “I Follow Rivers” by Lykke Li. Models stood stiffly on small tables along the walls. Every half hour or so, models switched and new looks were presented. Although I was not able to stay for the full 3 hour presentation, I was still able to get a good feel of designer Walter Baker’s cool-girl aesthetic.
Jackets and handbags seemed to be Walter’s strong points this season. Wool jackets and quilted coats were accented by fur panels and leather sleeves; one gorgeous trenchcoat was black leather with shearling lining and sleeves.
A few dresses were drop waisted and blouses had peplums, hitting two of Autumn’s biggest trends. Leather was also used as a accent on collars and cuffs.
Accessories were really the talk of the town—structured handbags in black, white, and grey were simple statement-makers. Shoes were spike-heeled booties decorated with geometric metallic panels.
My personal favorite look was a part herringbone, part white fur, part leather jacket. So crazy, yet so chic and on-trend.
